My Story

Alyssa "Aly Bean" Peters was born July 11, 2008 at 11:39am.  She weighed in at 7lbs 10oz and was 17 1/2 inches long.  She was born at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida.  She was a beautiful baby girl.  We couldn't have asked for a better baby.  JP(big brother) met Aly for the first time on July 13th at the hospital.  Aly and I were discharged on that same day.  The moment we arrived home, JP fell in love with his sissy.  He loved to just lay on the floor with her and look around.  The first few month were tough with Aly because she would cry no matter what.  She was fed, had her diaper changed, burped, and was cuddled with and she would still cry.  Her doctor never diagnosed her with colic, but looking back on those few months Walter and I came to the conclusion that she was a colicky baby.  Walter and I realized that we needed a change, we weren't getting ahead living in Florida.  We decided in late September early October that we wanted to move up to New England, closer to Walter's family, that way our kids would have all their cousins to grow up with.  It took a while for me to realize that we should do this because I didn't want to leave my home, Florida.  So Walter drove the moving truck towing our car and headed north to Massachusetts and the kids and I went to stay with my mom, Vicky, and stepdad, Joe in Palmetto, FL.  Shortly after Walter arrived in Massachusetts he found an apartment for us to live in.  So then on October 29, 2008 the kids and I flew from Palmetto, FL to Providence, RI.  We stayed a few days with my Brother and Sister in Law, Josh and Crystal and their 3 boys.  We got to our new place in Taunton, Massachusetts on November 1st.  About a week later Aly made a big change and was the happiest baby girl ever.  It seemed like we had a whole different baby.  As everyday went by JP and Aly grew a stronger bond.  It was priceless to see their faces as they "played" with each other.  Aly would love to just watch her big brother play cars, trains, or just run around crazy.  Every night before JP went to bed he had to give Aly a big kiss and hug!  If we forgot he would start to cry, and say "Give Beaners hug and kiss."  It was so sweet!  And every morning after getting JP up, we always had to go together, whether it was Walter and JP or me and JP, to get Aly out of her crib.  Since being here Aly has had several doctor's appointments, just regular well-baby check ups where she would get shots.  She always got a clean bill of health.  April 9, 2009 we had an appointment at Children's Hospital of Boston for both kids.  It was an orthopedic appointment for their achondroplasia(dwarfism).  Dr. Spencer said both of them were growing just like they should.  For achondroplastic dwarfs they were both in the 50 percentile range, which is where they should be.  We were told no need to worry or do anything at this point with either of them, just to come back on a yearly basis to evaluate their growth.  Four days later, we decided to take a trip to the park just down the street.  So we packed up and went down there to let JP play and burn off some much needed energy.  While there Aly got cranky because she was tired.  Well I strolled her around until she fell asleep and then went and played with JP and Walter.  Not even ten minutes later I went to check on her, and she had passed away while sleeping.  We called 911, while they were on the way, a lady there with her 15 month old daughter performed CPR and mouth to mouth.  Within a few minutes EMTs and officers arrived, the EMT's tried reviving her with no luck, so she was taken to the local hospital here.  The doctors and medical staff there also tried everything they could to bring her back, but were unable to do so.  At 3:24pm Aly was pronounced dead.  I just want everyone to know she had the best life she could have wanted.  She was loved by so many family and friends!!!!  We have realized though as much as we want her back here with us, she is in a much better place.  We all love and miss you so much!!!!
