My Story

Mum

Mum was a hard - working woman , spent years picking potatoes in Mitchells fields when we were kids , so that she could buy us things that we needed and also to make Christmas time special for us. And when she was`nt picking potatoes, she was cleaning her home.She was very house proud and i remember her even cleaning the doorstep! She never had alot in them days, but what little she had, she cared for and looked after .

She loved to dance and was brilliant at jiving , she tried to teach me but my hands always slipped out of her grasp! She loved Rock n Roll, the colour pink, Fairies and Angels ( she had a huge collection of them in her bedroom ) She liked Bingo and going to Boot sales and sight - seeing, she also enjoyed going on Cruises.

Her life was marred with bad health from the beginning, with nerve problems as a young child , nervous breakdowns in her 20`s , along with joint problems and asthma in her 30`s and yet more nervous breakdowns.Then in her late 40`s she developed osteoporosis and spondilosis and by mid 50`s emphasemia.

The past 2 years of her life was literally spent in her bedroom as she was stuck on oxygen all the time by then and she could hardly breathe when she moved in the slightest. It was a struggle for her to get to the bathroom but she still walked there till the day before she died .It was also a struggle for her to eat as she had problems breathing as she tried to chew her food, everything was a struggle for her and the few pleasures that she had left were also taken away as her breathing deteriorated even more. It was a blessing for her when she was eventually released from her suffering .

She was a really strong character till the end, undemanding, selfless and always there for her family even when her health was so bad, listened to my moaning and advised me even when she was close to death , though i never realised that she was that close !! It was a bad shock the day she went as it was totally unexpected . I think we all thought that she was just going to be with us forever no matter what ...
