My Story

Eulogy – A Tribute to Anthony LaBarbera

Pastor Keith Miller:
Keith shared a beautiful personal and spiritual message for Anthony’s family and friends. He then played the guitar and all joined in singing the song Surely.

Lisa Baez:
Can’t you feel the rush of angel’s wings? Yes God is in this place and HE has brought along one of HIS newest angels...my beautiful Daddy....Anthony LaBarbera. Daddy is certainly here – wrapping us all in his loving angel wings - right alongside my Mom. Exactly where he’s wanted to be for the past two years. Together again, in heaven... Two Precious Moment’s angels – sitting on a cloud. Thank you all for coming.

There aren’t many times when those in one room are all the people who love you. This is a great celebration of a great life. Daddy would love this amazing tribute. I’m Anthony’s daughter, Lisa. I’m the youngest of three kids. I was his “babe” and he was my “Daddy-O” but I stand here on behalf of all of Anthony’s children:

-My sister, Lorraine
– the eldest daughter – Dad called Lorraine the lone ranger- because she could corral everyone in the family together - she was always there for Dad – and always said YES Daddy to whatever he wanted.
-My brother, Steven – although half the time Steven was in Africa he was always in the middle, and always there for Daddy in spirit – and always Dad’s star son.
-My sister in law, Sandy – who was like a daughter to my dad – in fact, his favorite and only daughter in law – as Dad would say.

Last year I began sitting with Daddy and jotting down his thoughts and memories in a book. On July 8th 2007, Dad shared a story, saying: When you were a baby I would hold your two feet in my one hand – and go up and up... then I would put you down and you would say more, more... I did it with Lorraine and Steven too – I guess you would call that TRUST.

Yes it was – unconditional trust... and now we trust in God’s loving grace that our Daddy lives for all eternity in heaven.

In addition to his children, Daddy had 13 beautiful grandchildren. They were the apple of his eye – he was so very proud of them: Jason, Selina, Anthony, Jeremy, Jill, Laura, Ronnie and their spouses, Theresa, Mike, Jenn, Kelly, Doug, & Kathy.

And 7 amazing great-grandchildren: Angelina, Adriana, Baby Mia- who just learned to say Pop-Pop before he died, Ricky, Andrew, Ryan and Soon to be born my newest granddaughter - Baby Ava .

Dad always said – “We don’t make any ugly kids in this family” - and isn't that the truth - each one of the children is beautiful and bright too.

Dad had 3 very special nephews who flew down from New York to be here for him and our family... Robert, Joey and Anthony. The guys said, honor and respect had to be paid to our Uncle Ninny. And we greatly appreciate them being here for us.

Dad had lots of nieces and nephews who were all special to him – including a Goddaughter Patty in South Carolina and his newest Goddaughter Kim.

He was so proud of all his family and loved each of us in his own special way. He impacted each of our lives with a legacy of love, strength and courage. And we all love him... in the weeks before Daddy passed – I must have told him I loved him a thousand times... but he knew, every day in every way how deep our love for him ran.

As many of you know, Dad had a passion for growing things everything he ever planted grew so beautifully. Award winning roses – prized orchids – an abundance of vegetables and fruits. But the garden not only existed in Dad’s backyard. All those that knew him and that he knew were part of Anthony’s Garden of Life - throughout his 85 years on God’s earth. He planted seeds with the birth of his three children... and then seedlings which we call his grandkids and great grandkids. Today each one of us has blossomed thanks to Daddy’s Special Miracle Grow. And today we all continue to reap so many lessons from Daddy’s garden so that we may carry on harvesting his legacy of love and life.

In the final two years before Dad’s passing I was greatly blessed by having many opportunities to share spiritual moments with dad and pray with him to God. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and was at peace with his salvation when he went to begin his new journey.... to life everlasting.

A favorite bible verse that I use to share with Dad is Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

In closing, I want to share that - today and tomorrow, may we all find a sense of peace and comfort in knowing that my Daddy, Anthony – is now fulfilling God’s ultimate plan for him in heaven.

Thank you.

Next, my beautiful niece Jill Noble is going to speak as representative of the grandkids.
