Bruce Hunter Baldwin was born on January 22nd, 1927 in Yonkers, New York to Fredrick Augustus Baldwin and Florence May Hirtle. He attended Roosevelt Senior High School where he played hockey & baseball. Bruce was voted “Most Popular” of his graduating class of 1944. He enlisted in the United States Naval Service and was discharged on November 30th, 1946 as an Apprentice Seaman 1st Class. He married Thea Grubiak on August 1st, 1947. Their 1st son, Bruce Scott Baldwin was born April 20th, 1948. Bruce attended Miami University and received his BA in 1949.
His second son, Brad Hunter Baldwin, was born in 1953. One year later Bruce moved his family to Levittown. He started teaching at Levittown Memorial High School in 1963. Bruce was very active in student activities; he was student class advisor 1968, 69, 72, 75, 76, 79 & 80. He headed up the Surf Club and Hockey Club. Bruce was an advisor for the environmental group and coordinator of the outdoor education program. Outside of school he found time to be the Cubmaster of Pack 619 in 1964 and was affiliated with Explorer Post 320. Post 320, “The Sea Otters” was an active skin and scuba diving program from 1966 through 1974.
Bruce spent the years of his retirement gardening, enjoying the wonders of the world around him. He was able to spend time becoming his grand & great grand children’s greatest fan at their various sporting events. He always mentored them in all of their education, artistic and career endeavors. He loved his family, friends, neighbors and this community.
Thea, his wife of 54 years, was cruelly taken by cancer in the summer of 2001, She remained always the love of his life until his passing on March 19, 2012. He is survived by his sons Bruce Scott Baldwin and his wife Janet and Brad Hunter Baldwin and his wife Victoria Lynn, his grand children Kristopher Scott, Zach Hunter, Kimberly & her husband Sean McNeilly, Brad Hunter II and Glenn Hunter. His great grand children Brennan and Micaelyn Thea McNeilly.
