Martha Jo (Moon) Buchanan was born on November 3, 1931 in Amarillo Texas to James William Moon and Bessie Coreen (Sands) Moon.  She grew up with two brothers and three sisters; Earl, Johnny, Billie, Lady, and Betty.  Martha married her childhood sweetheart, Carl Buchanan, Jr., on May 4, 1947.  Together they had five children; Gini (1948), Judy (1950), Mekale (1952), Nick (1954), and Mike, (1955).  Martha and Carl relocated to Bakersfield, California in 1961 when Carl was transferred with Continental Carbon Co.  Martha was a housewife for most of her life, dedicating herself to raising their five children.  She was blessed with five grandchildren; Mandi La Force Dickey (1972), Jeff La Force (1977), Ryan Buchanan (1982), Austin Thomason (1993), Shelby Buchanan (2002); and three great-grandchildren, Josh Dickey (1991), Kaleb Dickey (2002), and Andrew Dickey (2005).
