Don L. Coby Sr. was affectionately known to most as Coby. He was born in Phoenix, AZ to Arletha McFarland and George Coby and attended Phoenix Union High School. In the 1970's, he moved to Los Angeles, CA where he spent 2 decades living, working, loving and playing.
Coby dedicated his life to beautifying the world around him and to enhancing the lives of those he loved. As a versatile and gifted stylist, he spent over 30 years making men and women look and feel better. He opened his first salon, Us for Beauty in Inglewood, CA and later worked at Allanah Hair Designs in Los Angeles, CA. Coby has been featured in Vogue magazine and was known for creating avant-garde styles and designs. Later in life, Coby moved to Atlanta, where he worked as an artistic stylist at the Purple Door and in 1994, he returned to Phoenix, where he opened up Coby's Touch Salon and became a cosmetology instructor. He taught cosmetology classes at Artistic Beauty School in Phoenix and International Academy of Beauty in Tempe, AZ.
Coby was a deeply spiritual man with remarkable inner peace and strength. Along with his many talent, he possessed a strong appreciation for beauty, style and fashion. He enjoyed remodeling and decorating homes and salons. Coby loved music, and as an avid lover of Jazz, he played the saxophone, frequently attended concerts and listened to music. He also enjoyed art, sports, traveling, gardening and nature especially the beach. Coby was a very nurturing man who enjoyed many things, but most of all he enjoyed the simple treasures of life like family, friends, love, peace and happiness. Coby loved his children dearly and savored the moments he spent with them and other family members. He was a very loving and caring father, son, companion, brother and friend.
We will truly miss his beautiful smile, kindness, gentile spirit, love and sincerity.
