Loving husband and father, brother, friend, avid outdoorsman and fisherman, Dave left us today, January 18, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Dave's greatest joy was fishing trips with his son, Kyle, to Canada for his famous walleye and northern pike. Dave's dream was to retire in the mountains of Northeast Tennessee with his wife of 37 years, Mary Ellen.
David N. Travis was born February 3, 1951 in Peekskill, New York. Dave, his wife, Mary Ellen and their son, Kyle, spent most of their life in Knoxville, Tennessee where they have many close friends and wonderful memories. Dave and Mary Ellen met while employed with Union Carbide Corporation in Tarrytown, New York and resided in several states before relocating with PACCAR Inc. to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Dave graduated from New York University and University of Arkansas. He worked in various manufacturing facilities and all those who crossed his path knew Dave as dedicated, courageous, compassionate, competitive, adventurous and humorous. There was never a task that Dave could not tackle, whether in the workplace, at home or in the outdoors.
Dave loved his pets Roscoe, Teela, Misty, Hobbes (his favorite) and Casey, the newest member of our family.
Dave is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen, their son Kyle, two children from an earlier marriage Kerry and Chris Flemming and Steven Travis, his beloved sister Deborah and her husband Paul, nephews Tommy, Travis, Jake, and his niece Jacqueline, and his very close and dear friend Mike Johnson. In addition Dave is survived by Mary Ellen's loving siblings, nieces and nephews. Dave's parents, David Wiley and Adair predeceased him in death.
We will all miss his great presence in our lives.
