My Story

David Z. Chow was born on February 27, 1914 to LianSheng and LinXiang Zhou in Shanghi, China.  David was the youngest of six children.  His family was in the watch and clock business.  The Zhou family was 1 of the Swiss Watch/Clock representatives in Shanghi, China.  David attended/graduated from the prestigious (Ge Zhi high school) and (St. John College) in Shanghi.  David was extremely talented and smart.  He received numerous awards throughout his academic life.  In 1944, he left Shanghi to attend Cornell University in New York, where he graduated with honors and a Masters degreee in Architecture.  After graduating he met a woman named Prudence Anderson and they later were married.  They moved to California where they had two children, a daughter (Eleanor E. Chow) and a son (David G. Chow).  He started his own business as an Architect/Delineator, David Chow and Associates.  Approximately one year after the birth of their son, David G., David and Prudence divorced and Daivd was left to raise his two children on his own.  A few years later he met a wonderful woman named, Karolyn M. (Kay), Wallace.  Karolyn had a son (Richard Q. Wallace) from her previous marriage.  David and Karolyn were married on August 25, 1957 and became and instant family of five.  They bought a home in Pasadena where they lived for many years until they bought a new house in South Pasadena.  Through the years David's architecture business became very well known.  David did architecture/delineations for big projects such as: the bradley building at LAX, Huntington Library, Huntington Memorial Hospital just to name a few.  Many years later his children had children of their own and the family began to grow. In 1972, David and Karolyn had their first grandchild (Shannon K. Fisher), the daughter of Eleanor.  Over the next ten years they had many pleasureable times with their only grandchild.  Then in 1982, Eleanor gave birth to a second daughter (Vanessa K. Hardy).  David and Kay thoroughly enjoyed having a second grandchild and spent many wonderful times with their family.  Then in 1993, their son David G. had his first child (Ashlee D. Chow).  By this time David and Karolyn were getting older and it was getting harder to get together, but yet they still managed to enjoy having the family over for family get togethers.  By 1998, David and Karolyn had four grandchildren the last one to arrive was (Jessica A. Chow) born to David G.  In 2001 David's wife (Karolyn), became ill and David then cared for his ill wife (by himself) in their home in South Pasadena until the day she passed (April 6, 2002).  Then in July 2002 David had his first great grandchild (Marissa B. Fisher), the child of Shannon Fisher.  His second great grandchild was born on March 5, 2007 (Arianna Y. Torres), the child of Vanessa Hardy.  David lived in the family house until 2005 when the family moved him into a assisted living home (Noal Ranch) in Anaheim Hills.  He continued to live there until March of 2007, when the family decided that he need 24 hour care.  At that time he was moved to Big Springs Elderly Care where he lived until he passed away January 2008

David Z. Chow is survived by a daugther, Eleanor E. Hardy; a son, David G. Chow; a step-son, Richard Q. Wallace; a son-in-law, Gary L. Hardy; four grandchildren, Shannon K. Fisher, Vanessa K. Hardy, Ashlee D. Chow, and Jessica A. Chow; two great-grandchildren, Marissa B. Fisher and Arianna Y. Torres.

He will be greatly missed in our lives, but we have his memories left to live by.
