A memorial service will be held for Dorothy on Saturday 20, 2012 at 2:00 pm at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 510 Jefferson Street, Red Bluff, CA.
Ken Lindauer and his family are deeply saddened to announce the death of Dorothy, his beloved wife of more than 50 years. Dorothy died unexpectedly Monday, October 15 due to heart failure. Dorothy was born and raised in Berkeley, California. She attended University of California at Berkeley where she majored in Spanish and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Dorothy moved to Red Bluff in 1959 to teach Spanish at Red Bluff High School and married Ken Lindauer in 1961. In the early 1970s she began to work with the developmentally disabled through Shasta College’s new program, the Opportunity Center. She obtained her Masters degree in special education and was committed all of her life to teaching and helping disabled adults. She and Ken enjoyed traveling, and Dorothy, fluent in both Spanish and French, was always interested in learning the language and culture of each new country they visited. Ken and Dorothy were founding members of the International Prune Association which they helped establish in 1988. This organization promotes trade and goodwill among prune growers worldwide.
Dorothy was a member of the Far Northern Regional Board, advocating for the developmentally disabled. She was committed to the mission of The Poor and the Homeless in Red Bluff and was a frequent donor. She attended St. Peter’s Episcopal Church for over fifty years.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Ken Lindauer, her daughters Hillary Vasey (Michael) and Allison Lindauer (David), her brother George Bliss, her sister Margaret Gaspari, grandchildren Aaron and Josiah Vasey, and Sydney and Holden Spencer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to PATH(redbluffpath.org) or the Family Service Agency (fsatehama.com).
