My Story

Dr. Arthur Garry was born and spent most of his formative years in Manhattan, NY. He attended Flower Fifth Avenue Medical School in New York City, where he eventually went on to earn his surgical credential. He served as a major in the U.S. Army, working in the M.A.S.H. unit during the Vietnam War, an experience that aided in his eventual career as a trauma surgeon. He worked as a General Vascular Trauma Surgeon at John Muir Medical Center for 35 years, where he served as Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff, respectively. At JMMC, he was instrumental in establishing the Trauma Center and Wound Care Center, where he served as Medical Director since it’s inception. The highlight of his life was serving at Hospital de la Familia in Nuevo Progreso, Guatemala, where he administered free medical treatment to some of the very poorest people in that country. Some of his many passions included fishing, Irish culture, Indian arts and Oriental rugs. He was a loving husband to Carol Garry, his wife of 35 years, and is survived by his children Joey Garry, Kevin Garry, Maureen Coogen, Timothy Garry, Micaela Garry-Rice, and Andrew Garry. His Memorial Mass will be held at St. John Vianney Church located at 1650 Ygnacio Valley Road in Walnut Creek, CA at 11 am 9-16-09.
