This is our little ray of sunshine ELLIS MARK DAVIES.
When MARK and I found out we were having a little boy we were excited, as we already had a little girl Ainsley Rebecca who was 3 years old. We thought "perfect" one of each what more could we ask for.
Everything was going perfectly, no problems whatsoever. Then when I was 37 weeks my waters broke and we went to hospital. Ellis was born within 4 hours on Wednesday 25th september 2002 at 2.55am weighing 5lb 12oz. Everything went fine with no problems.
They wanted to keep an eye on him for 1/2 hour as he was using a lot of energy to breath, they said his lungs had not properly developed due to being 3 weeks early, they decided to take him to the baby care unit to put him on oxygen and antibiotics to help develop his lungs.
He was doing really well and by the Friday night, they were so pleased with him. He was taking every other bottle by himself and was off the oxygen. They said when I come back on the Saturday morning he would be out of the incubator and in a cot, and on the Monday he could come home with us.
Never once did they say that he was poorly or gave us any cause for concern. That night when I put him back into his incubator he was asleep. I gave him a kiss and said "goodnight sweetheart". He woke up and gave me the most beautiful smile that I will never forget. Little did I know that was going to be the last one, the last lovely memory of him.
Then at 2.30am on Saturday 28th September 2002, the police were knocking at our door telling us to get to the hospital as quickly as we could. I was not expecting the worse, but when we got there he had passed away at around 2.30am. I can not begin to tell you the pain we were in. When I picked him up he was still warm, they kept him in an incubator to keep him warm until we arrived. He looked so beautiful and peaceful and just like he was asleep.
We just could not get our head round it , he was doing so well. We kept saying "why our little ELLIS? Why?".
They said he took his feed and just passed away, they tried to revive him for an hour with no joy. He was not meant to be here on earth for some reason, why we dont know. The staff were baffled to why he passed therefore they had to have a postmortem.
When I went for my postnatal check 6 weeks later they tested me for group b strep which came back positive.
I got pregnant straight away and when I was 7 months pregnant with TAMZIN ELISE I got the results of the postmortem for ELLIS. He died from septicemia, natural causes. Therefore it was linked to me having group B strep. So Tamzins pregnancy was checked constantly and never once had it so just to make sure I had antibiotics during labour with Tamzin and she was clear. Tamzin was born on Monday 18th August 2003 within a year of Ellis.
Ainsley was so brave during the early days of losing Ellis when I was weak she was amazing, then when I started to get stronger she was getting weaker. But we all pulled together and without Mark, Ainsley, and new baby Tamzin Elise and of course both sides of the family, I dont know how I would have got through it.
We all know he is a bright star at night shining down on us and watching over us.
I was always scared of dieing, now I am not scared at all - knowing one day I will meet Ellis again.
We all love and miss you ELLIS so much, there is not a day or minute we dont think of you.
Goodnight godbless, sweetdreams ELLIS.
Wtih all our love Mummy, Daddy, big sister Ainsley, little sister Tamzin, xxx
