Elizabeth Ann Hampel was born December 5, 1989 and she lived with her parents. Mother, Laurie and father, Bruce. She had only one sibling, her older brother, Aaron. Elizabeth was in her Freshmen year of high school when she was diagnosed with cancer. She battled this cancer until it took her life on March 24, 2007. She never let it get the best of her though. She wouldnt like to talk about it. She always put other peoples feelings ahead of her own. She never let her sickness bring down her spirits. She was always a happy person it seemed. She enjoyed playing softball, basketball, and various other sports. Though, her favorite sport of all was NASCAR. She absolutely loved it. Her room has a NASCAR checkered flag lining all around the trim of her walls. Elizabeth was a very friendly person and all the kids loved her deeply. All of the kids in her neighborhood knew who she was. They would come to her house and play games with her. She loved being around them. Elizabeth also worked part time at Westlake Ace Hardware in Olathe, KS. Her co-workers really enjoyed having her to work with. Customers were delighted to see her smile and jump into conversations with her.
Once Elizabeth was diagnosed, she didnt seem to let it bother her. She bravely withstood the pain of Chemo Therepy which in result left her with the embarrassing consequences in which she had to suffer. Elizabeth had long, beautiful brown hair that she often wore in a pony-tail. After Chemo, she eventually lost her natural hair and wore a brown wig twisted in a bun. She knew that people could tell the difference, but it didnt seem to phase her. Her hair wasnt the only thing she lost. Elizabeth's weight dropped dramatically. She weighed less than 100 lbs when her end came. Her fingernails began to "flake" off leaving her fingers brittle and weak. This caused her hands to be in pain at times also. Being as close to Elizabeth as I was, I had the chance to really look into her eyes and see her pain. She knew that she didnt have much longer, yet she lived her life normally. Towards the end of suffering, Elizabeth wasnt able to leave her house. Her mother allowed visiters all the time and welcomed Elizabeths friends at any time day or night. Elizabeth spent most of her time with her family before she left us. Elizabeth Ann Hampel went peacefully in her sleep on the night of March 24, 2007.
