Josefa Messina was born on June 8, 1926 in Buenos Aires, Argentina to Italian immigrants. She was born into a large Catholic family and her days as a child and teen were spent sewing and helping to take care of her ailing father who was paralyzed and could no longer work. Her duty to serve those around her was born here. Later in life she would suffer great tragedies that with the sudden death of her husband, Juan Campoccia, and father of Beatriz and Juan Carlos, to an airplane crash. Then later, in 1992 would come the devastating loss of her son Juan Carlos. Josefa, however, carried on utterly devoting her time, love and affection to her grandchildren Marcelo, Romina, Leticia and Carlos Jr. She served as a second mother to her grandchildren while Betty and Carlos worked two and three jobs in their new home, the United States. She cared for them, cooked, cleaned, and taught them while always being a pilar of strength for the family. Josefa was the type of woman that would give all that she had. She would make the children clothing, costumes, cook, clean and she never dared miss a soccer game, rooting alongside the field with her garden chair and umbrella. Although she never learned how to drive a car or never quite got the hang of the English language, she managed to make many great friends along her years in Albuquerque and Las Vegas. Josefa was a saint, the type of person that never wished ill on someone, and she will be remembered by all those that knew with the utmost love and respect. Fefa, you will be missed every single day.
