My cousin Lawrence was one of a kind. He always had a smile and kind words for everyone he met. I always knew that every time I would see him, before we parted he would have said "Yes, Indeedy" at least once. I too was another "lefty' in the family and enjoyed playing all sports. Rest in peace my dear cousin.
Tribute from: Dotty Thompson and family
Remember me with smiles and laughter,for that's how I'll remember you. "If you can only remember me with tears and sadness, then don't remember me at all!"........ Lawrence L. Buckner..(SHORTY)1923-2011....Love and miss you.
Roger Buckner remembers: One memory, I will take to my grave, is of Lawrence & I - plus Sherry sometimes, in the late summer & fall on Sunday mornings, would take our ride in the open jeep from home, going by Springsbury, then Ellerslie, to rt. 50; cross the river bridge, go through Shenandoah Farms, up Blue Mtn. and then down the old fire trail through Reid Thomas's property looking for deer....
Tribute from Roger Buckner: Lawrence could be called the ultimate BIG BROTHER. Spent countless hours w/ kids, related or not. I guess he was like another dad to me. He nicknamed all of us kids-mine was Joker. He'd work all day, then mow Grandma's 2 acres w/ a push mower, he was a tough old bird! He was a lefty, as I am when it comes to pitching ball or shooting a bow. Got alot of valuable know...
As I sit here, trying to put memories into words and those words onto paper(or website), I am finding it increasingly hard. The memories I have of Lawrence are so beautiful that it is hard just to find the words to describe them. No one in my entire life has touched me the way this man has. He was there for me from the time I was born, and for that, I am forever grateful.
Lawrence taught me...
Constructive criticism:
Playing golf 'in the bottom'...keep your head DOWN, all the way through the swing;
Playing softball..keep your EYE on the ball, your ELBOW up and follow through on your swing; use BOTH hands to catch the ball.
Aiming a rifle...Safety first. Keep the safety ON until you are ready to shoot; Find your target, Set your sight; Set your trigger; then shoot: don't linger...
Lawrence spoiled me rotten. If I heard his jeep start, I figured, I was goin' for a ride. But there were times, he'd say, " Sheriff, I'll be back in a little while." My lip poked out and his expression to that was, "It's poutin' time, see ya soon."
Our jeep ride would take us by the river, up Parshal Lane, by Ray Gray's home; passed Buckley's Farm and the Bell boys property 'til, we'd rea...
Lawrence,
Since one of your interest was rock variations, I decided to 'lay a stone' for you.
You were my Uncle, but you were so much more than that...my teacher, my guide, my friend. I will miss seeing you, but you know, you will always be with me in my heart. I have so many memories, which I will forever treasure. l am so thankful that you were, and will forever be, a part of my life....
