Gregory Viant Faull
Ambergris Caye, Belize and Oviedo , Fl, USA
Greg Faull, 52, will be remembered as an independent, hard working man filled with initiative and a love for adventure.
He passed away at his home in Belize on November 11, 2012. He was born in Morgantown, WV on September 9, 1960. His family settled in Eau Gallie, FL in 1965.
Greg is survived by his Mother, Eileen Keeney (Bill) of Satellite Beach; Father, Arthur Faull (Rosann) of Jacksonville; Sister, Cynthia Friedemann (Tom) of Oklahoma City; Daughter, Amber Eileen Faull of Savannah and a host of dear friends and relatives. He was a popular nephew, stepbrother, uncle, cousin and friend because he involved his loved ones in his many adventures: Fishing, motorcycle racing, hunting and sailing. Greg competed and won a number of deep-sea fishing contests, and is the current record holder for Port Canaveral with a 110 pound Bigeye Tuna.
He served his country as a Navy Corpsman attached to the Marine Corps serving in Okinawa in the early 80’s, completing his service with an honorable discharge. Greg attained his General Contractor’s license and built a successful construction business, Gregory V. Faull, General Contractor, Inc. He worked on projects at Orlando theme parks: Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World, as well as commercial and residential buildings.
While involved in a building project on the campus of University of Central Florida, Greg discovered an opportunity to create Tailgaters Smokehouse and Spirits. Tailgaters has become a favorite spot for UCF students and athletes.
Everyone who was close to him had a “Greg story.” Whether it was a hair raising drive home from the airport (where one truly felt safer in the sky), a white-knuckled ocean excursion beyond the sight of land bailing for dear life, a nail biting wait on shore as Greg and his crew raced in with minutes to spare with the prize-winning catch in a fishing tournament, sitting behind the opposing team at a UCF Sporting event cheering for the Knights, or as an amazed islander watching him surf, as the Mayor of San Pedro Town in Belize shared, “Greg is the 1st person I ever saw surfing inside the reef at Ambergris Caye!”; Greg had a knack for creating memories.
This knack for “living large” meant that Greg personally made sure that each young member of his extended circle of family and friends experienced the excitement of catching the big one…be it an alligator, sailfish or mahi-mahi, most of which were humanely returned to their natural environment.
He loved animals. At his home he created a preserve where wild deer would come in from the forest and eat out of his hands, and an aviary for his beloved large birds, Mo, Forrest, Buckets and Nuggets.
Greg lived more life in his 52 years than most do in twice that time. He was taken from us in a cowardly and brutal attack. He was larger than life and he leaves a larger than life hole in our hearts. His family mourns his untimely death.
A memorial service is planned for 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 19, 2013 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Eau Gallie, FL where Greg attended Sunday School as a child. Weather permitting, Greg’s remains will be scattered at sea on January 20, 2013. Arrangements handled by Beach Funeral Home, Indian Harbor Beach, FL.
