Harold C. Fietzer, 88, died Friday, November 9th, at the Friendly Village nursing home of complications from a lengthy battle with prostate cancer. A resident of the Rhinelander area for over 25 years, Harold or "H" as he was known to family members, moved here upon his retirement after 29 years as a corrections officer at the maximum security prison in Waupun, Wisconsin. Born in Manawa, Harold played shortstop for the Clintonville Truckers before serving in the army during the Italian campaign of World War II.
He was a golfing and fishing enthusiast who loved the lakes and forests of Northern Wisconsin and remained an active member of the American Legion. He is survived by his sons, William (Christine) and Terence (Cheryl) Fietzer, his grandsons Alexander and Nicholas, his brother Marvin, his sisters Lois Darling and Delores Habeck, his special friend, Stella Stefan, and his nieces, nephews, and their extended families living in Appleton, the Manawa area, and southern California.
