Howard
“Wowie” Charles Tarr, Jr., 76, died October 8, 2012 from complications of congestive
heart failure. His family was by his side.
Howard was born the eldest of 3 boys July 13, 1936
in Phoenix, AZ to Howard and Mabel Tarr. He graduated from Kingman HS in 1954. From the University of Arizona, Howard earned a BS in
Electrical Engineering in 1959 and an MBA in 1965. He also
obtained a JD from the University of San Diego in 1974. Howard served in the US Air Force from
1959-1963 and was stationed in Biloxi, MS and Japan. His fondest memories were
those made with lifelong friends in high school and college where he met his
wife of 54 years. Howard enjoyed gardening, genealogy, following UA sports, and his granddaughters.
He worked for General Electric and General Dynamics,
and as a civil and patent law attorney.
Howard is survived by his wife, Vonda; brother,
Patrick (Rosanna); son, Glen (Carrie; daughters, Debra, and
Noreen Cabrera (Marino); granddaughters, Makenna and Kalia Cabrera, and Linden Tarr. He is preceded in death by
his parents and younger brother, Robert “Bobby”.
A memorial service will be held at the San Diego History Center in Balboa Park, 1649 El Prado,
SD CA 92101 on Saturday, November 3rd from 11am to 3pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial
donations may be given to St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center, www.stmsc.org. St.
Madeleine’s works to empower adults with
developmental disabilities. Howard’s daughter, Debra, is a person with mental
retardation and attends St. Madeleine’s.
