James Calvin Mathis, Sr., 77, passed away Monday, February 22, 2010 at his home. James was a weight inspector with Motor Carrier Compliance for 26 years, and prior to that, he was a truck driver for 25 years. He served his country in the Korean War.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Vines Emory and Bobbie Lee Mathis; son, Bobby Mathis; sister, Shirley Evans; and brother, Roger Cranford. Mr. Mathis is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lilly Mathis; brother, Marvin (Shirley) Mathis; children, Diane (Joe) Gatliff, of Forsyth, GA, Jim (Cathy) Mathis, of Forsyth, GA, Debbie (Jim) Oakley, of Forsyth, GA, Patricia Nixon, of Forsyth, GA, Tony (Debbie) Mathis, of Forsyth, GA, James (Kathy) Mathis, of Pace, FL, and Tina (Dennis) Udell, of Pace, FL; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Mathis will be 1:00 PM, Friday, February 26, 2010 at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel. Burial will follow in Serenity Gardens Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Lewis Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Sherry Davis, Mitchell Potter, Michael Loftin, Cheryl Lovelace, William Hunter, and Michael Scott. Honorary pallbearers will be DOT Officers.
