Obituary
It is with sorrow that his family announces the passing of Jack A. Burch, 80, of Vancouver B.C. on May 11, 2008. Jack was born on May 7, 1928, in Cranbrook B.C. and grew up in Trail B.C. He was always a Trail boy at heart!
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, two daughters, Betty Ann (Doug) Xenis of Summerland, B.C., and Sylvia of Grand Forks, B.C., three sons, Jerry (Renee) of White Rock, B.C., Jim (Lynne) of Grand Forks, B.C. and Alan of Nelson, B.C. and one brother, Gerald (Jean) of Vancouver, B.C. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Kelly, David, Tyson, Lindsay, Heather, Robyn, Madeline, Kara, Elena and Sophia and great-grandchildren: Briana, Raya, Aiden, Mya, and Bella, and many nieces and nephews. He was sadly predeceased by his parents Elizabeth (Kay) and Roy.
After obtaining a Bachelor of Forestry from the University of British Columbia in 1951 and a Master’s Degree in Forestry from Syracuse University, New York, in 1952, Jack began a career in Forestry in British Columbia which was challenging and varied. From General Manager at MacMillan Bloedel’s plywood plant in Vancouver to Kootenay Forest Products in Nelson, B.C. to the CanPar particleboard plant in Grand Forks, Jack took on challenges with enthusiasm and unfailing optimism. He mentored many young forestry executives on his way. At the end, Jack was still going strong as the owner of Superior Cove Tops Ltd. in Vancouver B.C.
Besides work, Jack enjoyed many things in life, from doing crossword puzzles to reading to golfing. He loved discussing ideas, current events, sports and politics. His favourite place on earth was his cabin at Christina Lake, B.C. where he and his family spent many wonderful summers. Sharing this beautiful place with family members and friends created many special memories which his family cherishes to this day.
The family wishes to thank his loyal “second family” at Superior Cove Tops, in particular Jaspal Bassan and Joseph Chan. We know Dad enjoyed working with all of you, and we are grateful for your care and support of him.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, with interment to follow in Grand Forks, B.C. The family would welcome hearing memories and stories of Jack’s life.
