My Story

Jason was born on Tuesday afternoon, February 23, 1982 in Fairfax, Virginia. Jason was the oldest of three children born to Denise Edwards. Jason was a happy baby; a beautiful baby. In fact so beautiful most people thought he was a girl. Everywhere I went people just oohed and awed over him. He was a loving child; a happy child. Always trying his best at everything he did and this spilled over into his adult life as well. He was a big brother to Jeremy and Jasmine and loved his family very much. He graduated from high school in 2001 and I could never have been more proud. He went on to become an arborist; he knew his business well. On September 25, 2002 his first child, Jade was born. And, was he a proud father. On February 12, 2003 his second child, Sierra was born. On June 24, 2004, his third child, Jordan was born. And, on December 19, 2006 his fourth child, Melinda was born. He loved his girls and they loved him. He was part of their life and provided for his girls. He was a wonderful person; loving, easy going, laid back kind of guy and a great human being. Just had a beautiful smile and was so easy to give a person his smile. He never knew a stranger. He was a loving son to his mother, a loving brother to his siblings, a loving father to his girls and a great friend; I can never say enough good about him; although I will add he was a human being and of course, not perfect.

I speak so much of Jason's smile and the picture I chose to use on this memorial does not show his beautiful smile. There is a reason for that picture. That picture was taken on Sunday, March 4, 2007, three days before his passing. I took that picture with my cell phone and had to coax him to let me take it; he didn't want to because he didn't feel like getting his picture taken. All I had to do to convince him was to say, "Please Jason, your Mama wants a picture of you on her cell phone." Little did anyone know in three days he would be gone. Thus, that picture is quite special to me.

Jason was senselessly murdered on March 7, 2007 for no obvious reason. Just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Someone just wanted to kill someone (I just don't get that!). His brother was also shot but survived. He saw the man that shot them; they arrested him and he was found "not guilty" by a jury of our peers. The DA said there was no physical evidence; juries do not go on what people see or witness. There just wasn't enough evidence. So Jason is in heaven never to hurt or be hurt again. But, we on earth have to live out our lives without our precious loved one; children have to grow up without their father because of some stupid and idiot jerk who, by the way, is walking around as a free man. But, God's justice and wrath will be much more harsh than man's. And, thanks to God and my faith in Jesus Christ I am not bitter or angry; just heartbroken as all his loved ones are. Jason is gone from this earth but he is doing much more important work in Heaven, working for God. And, we will see him again; he will be waiting on us when we get there. Hallelujah! We love you Jason and miss you each and every day! Love from your family and friends!
