My Story

My grandfather, Joseph James Impello,  was born on July 24, 1904 in Brooklyn, New York. His parents, Thomas and Pauline, were born in Messina, Sicily.  He had three sisters and one brother.
He attended and graduated from Boys High School in the Bedford Styuvesant section of Brooklyn.

My grandfather spent much of his childhood enjoying what was the hey day of Coney Island Amusement Park in the early 1920's to late 1930's.  One of his favorite places to eat was Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs.  He belonged to several social clubs where he enjoyed many social activities during "The Roaring Twenties."

He married my grandmother, Mildred, in the 1940's and lived in the Fordham section of the Bronx, NY. They had Ronald and ten years later, my mom, Linda,  in 1951.

He worked for 40 years on Wall Street at the stock exchange. Meryl Lynch was his last employer.

My grandfather loved to gamble and was a gambler at heart.  He enjoyed playing cards, the slot machines at Atlantic City, playing numbers, as well as the horse races.

He had a special "ear" for music and although he had no formal musical training, he was able to play a few tunes on the piano.  His favorite song of all time was "Spanish Eyes."

During his retirement, he and my grandmother moved to Toms River, NJ, where he died at 91 years old.

I am proud to say that my grandfather lived a full life the way he wanted to live it.  I was very close to him and I miss him every day.
