John K. Saffa was a son, brother, uncle and friend to many,
and a comrade, student and beloved member of the community and family of Fourabites,
those lucky few who gained association in one way or the other with Fourah Bay
College, University of Sierra Leone, the first institution of higher learning
in West Africa (otherwise previously known as the Athens of West Africa).
Having grown up in Kenema, where he attended the Government Secondary School,
he studied for and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at FBC, before returning home
to Kenema district 1993. Just a few months later, he was mercilessly and
purposelessly gunned down by rebel fighters at Tongofiled . . . .
