My Story

Karissa enjoyed her Nintendo DS, swimming, stuffed animals, reading, and listening to music like The Spice Girls, Miley Cyrus, Hillary Duff. During her short life she had finished a babysitting course and was a peer-mediator at Bridgewater Elementary School. Until November 2007, Karissa attended Grade 6 at Hillcrest Elementary School in Shelburne. Known for her love of animals, she had talked of studying to become a veterinarian. She was remembered for her friendly personality and winning smile. Tragically, Karissa died aged 12 at the hands of her mother, who was later sentenced to life imprisonment after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. Karissa is survived by her father, brother, sister, stepfather, grandparents and large extended family.
