My Story

Mike was our little brother and father to a wonderful young lady Sandra. He loved fishing. Anytime he talked about a vacation or reunion it was always were we going to fish or is anyone going fishing. I know he loved going fishing with his Uncle Jimmy  Mann and many other family members whenever the opportunity came.  When we were little and lived in Key West Florida I remember him as a scrawny little boy with no shoe's, no shirt and well a fishing pole. Not quite a Kenny Chesney song but Mike had the lyrics wrote to it long before Kenny did just in the way he lived.  Mike's family and friends were very important to him and he was always there for them.
Even with the obstacles of his childhood he managed to rise above it and raise a wonderful daughter. Sandra's accomplishments in life are a reflection of the father who raised her. We don't understand why he was taken from us so young but Mike had strong beliefs and he is at peace.
Mike we will keep your memory alive and always keep our arms wrapped tight around Sandra no matter how far apart we are.
Everytime we see the ocean or any body of water that can be fished we will think of Mike and it will bring a smile to our face.
You are the best little brother we could ever have.
Love you and miss you so much.

Michael Turner, also known as "Mike" or  "Mr. Mike," of Terrell, Texas passed away on October 22, 2011. He was born on July 14, 1962 in Long Beach, California to General Melton and Lillian Patricia Turner, both of whom preceded him in death.
Mike was an employee with Maddix, Inc. in Terrell where he worked for 15 years. He was the Superintendent over the Wood Shop where he received multiple awards for his service. A very compassionate and tenderhearted man, you would have to look hard to find one that could achieve his level of accomplishment as a single father, great brother, and friend. Mike was a kind and giving neighbor, especially to Miss Mable with whom he always took time to stop and visit. He also had a sense of humor that was combined with wit and respect for others. He loved deep sea fishing and prided himself in catching yellow fin tuna. He was a wonderful cook, an avid gardener and loved the beach. Proud of his country, he was a veteran of the US Navy.
Mike is survived by his daughter and S.O., Sandra Turner and Bryan Schmidt of Frisco, TX; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Chito Gutierrez of Commerce City, CO; brother and sister-in-law, James and Laura Turner of Prescott Valley, AZ; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Allen Higley of Spanaway, WA; and numerous other friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made in Mike's honor to the American Cancer Society or the Child Protective Services of Kaufman County.
