My Story

Nancy Janice Haley was more than just a grandmother, she was my mother. She brought me home from the hospital and I slept in the same bed with her until I was a teenager. Her favorite season was fall. She loved watching the leaves change color on the mountain we lived on. Everytime it snowed, you could catch her out playing in it. She loved the snow. Thunderstorms was a completely different story. When a bad storm would approach, she would make us all cut off all the lights and get away from the windows. She said we had to be still and respect the storm.
Losing her was like losing a piece of myself. I've never felt hurt like that before. It was as if someone had knocked the wind out of me and I can honestly say that I cried for 4 months straight. I talk to her sometimes like she's standing right beside me. Even at 31 years old, if I'm doing something I'm not supposed to, I'll stop and wonder, "What would she think of me if I were to do this"? It stops me from doing a lot of crazy things.
I miss her and I love her still today as I did as a child.
