Robert Gober, Sr was born in Millbrook, Alabama. He was the youngest son of Confederate Veteran Lisbon Fales Gober and Carrie Rawlen. He married Mary Wiley Brooks on May 10, 1941 and they had three children, Bobbe Brooks, Robert Jr, and Jon Douglas.
A veteran of WW II, Robert served in the south Pacific Arena as a respected Navy Sea Bee. He lived his life by the Sea Bee motto and "Can Do" spirit. He was a master of three crafts and retired from St. Johns County School Board, where he was superintendent of maintenance. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
His last minutes on earth were spent in his home with his beloved wife, Mary, and grandson (by marriage) Timothy Albrecht. His grand daughter, Angela, and daughter Bobbe, were with him until a few minutes before he left this earth for his final home. His last night on this earth was nothing short of remarkable to those who had the privilege to experience it. He exhibited his strong faith in His Lord as he was ushered home.
At the time of his passing, his survivors included his wife of 60 years, Mary, three children, two brothers, Henry and Vince Gober of Millbrook, Ala.; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
