A message from Roger, husband and best friend...
Sheila Diane Spellman Raimist
1939-2010
As children, we met in school and were part of a group of neighborhood friends that we still know and love. We played and went to school together and all became adults with lives of our own.
Often hovering, as teenagers do, about her parent’s home and talking with them I hoped to see my Sheila. After a few months, I eventually found the courage to ask her to marry me, share my life and walk this road with me. Truly surprised that she would have considered such an awkward, introverted boy with whom to spend her life, we married and remained together some 50 years this past January.
Life with Sheila has always been wonderful. We raised two great and successful children, and traveled the world together. Like most marriages, there were bumps and unexpected turns, yet we loved each other so much that we actually managed to enjoy those passing years.
Even in her final days on earth, she often spoke about her children, the friends she has made around the world and how much she loved the people she met.
My friend for more than sixty years and wife for fifty, she was more than just a daughter, more than just a wife, more than just a mother. She was my companion on this journey of life and she was my friend. Keep her memory alive in all your hearts for surely I know she touched your lives as did she mine. Shed not your tears to mark her passing but shout her name aloud in celebration of her life. Let all who hear her name know she passed your way. Let all who hear her name know she made a difference and was your friend too.
