Yvonne Marie Covington Allen was born May 15, 1936 in Lambert, MS to the late Dave and Leola Covington. The family moved to Chicago, IL in January 1944. Yvonne was oldest of five children: Helen, Glenn, Belinda, and Clifton. Both of her parent and brother Clifton preceded her in death.
Yvonne received her education in the Chicago public school system. She graduated from Wells H.S. and later graduated with honors from Taylor Business Institute.
Yvonne was employed for thirteen years by Bostrom Corporation, Chicago, IL, which afforded her the opportunity to travel abroad to Munich, Germany, Venice, Italy, Paris France, Toronto, Canada and many cities in the U.S.A. She also was employed by Booz Allen Hamilton, Dallas TX for seven years.
Yvonne accepted Christ at Union Baptist Church and was baptized by the late Rev. J.A. Allen. She sang in the Inspirational Choir. She moved her membership to Mt. Hermon M.B Church in 1962 under the pastorage of Rev. Joseph A. Allen. She also was a member of New Birth M.B. Church, Dallas, TX Rev. George W. Pryor, Pastor (1994-2002). After moving back to Chicago she united with New Covenant M.B. Church, Rev. Stephen J. Thurston, Sr. Pastor. Yvonne was a member of the Women's Mission, Hospitality, Deaconess and Sunday School Ministries.
Yvonne was joined in Holy Matrimony January 20, 1962 to the late Rev. Norward A. Allen, Sr. To this union three children were born: Kimberly, Dione, Joseph Todd and Norward Andrew, Jr.
Yvonne went home to be with the Lord on May 14, 2012. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving family. Kimberly Finley, Joseph Allen and Norward Allen; her grandchildren Brittney C. Allen, Kristen M Finley, Norward D. Allen and Asia A. Allen; two step-daughters, Shawn Bradshaw and Tereska Yvette Ivory, one granddaughter Jada R. Tetter, her sisters Helen (AL) Thompson, Belinda Covington, her brother Glenn (Nina) Covington, sister-in-law Rosetta (John); Mother-in-law Myrtis Allen, many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, several special friends, Phyllis Louie, Wilma Mason, Juanita Williams, and her New Covenant and Mt. Hermon Church families.
