My Story

Dad was a healer, healer of broken hearts, broken bones, broken lives. He was kind and gentle, he had a heart of gold. He would give his last dime, his last bit of food to anyone. He anticipated your needs and did things for ou without even asking. He was my friend, my father, my mentor, my role model, my everything.

He loved my mother and took care of her in spite of health, and when she died, he was not the same. I saw Alzheimer's ravish his body and mind, but he never lost his smile or his kindness. Even in the end he was a gentle man, he was someone everyone loved.

He grew up in the South and was a true Southern gentleman. He laughed he played practical jokes on his co-workers, he wrote poetry, he sang, he wrote a book, he went to school up until he could not hold his hands still any longer.

His journey into a place I could not go hurts, it hurts deeply every day. I miss his smile, his sparkle in his eyes, the way he walked, and the way he ate, and loved my desserts.

He ate healthy, didn't drink, didn't smoke and was the epitome of what a husband and father should be. I was lucky, blessed, he and my mother adopted me and gave me the tools to endure life, only they didn't give me the tools to live without them.

Wherever my father may be, call it heaven, I hope he knows how much he is missed and loved.
