Bruce Alan Oyler, age 60, of Knoxville, TN, devoted husbandand father, passed away on Saturday afternoon, April 14th 2012. He was deeply loved by his family and manyfriends.
Born May 24th, 1951, in San Luis Obispo, CA, theson of Virgil and Betty Oyler, Bruce was a restless and curious mind,graduating from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a degree in psychology andlater attending the University of Tennessee to obtain his MA in computerscience. He was a tinkerer, fixer, and handyman, constantly busy with varioustasks and projects, never refusing help to anyone in need. Levelheaded andstrongly independent, Bruce nevertheless loved to talk and was in his way asdependent on his family’s love as they were on his.
He met his future wife, Deborah Grace Morgan, in Virginiaand they were married in Abingdon in1978. Moving to Knoxville, TN, the twogradually grew into a family of six and a loving household. Bruce worked loyallyfor Emerson Process Management and was in the constant service of his church, MiddlebrookPike UMC. He formed many meaningful and lifelong friendships at both,sustaining and enriching his life.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah; parents, Virgil andBetty; daughter, Caitlin Oyler Shaffer and her husband Timothy Shaffer; son,Benjamin Oyler and his wife Summer Shelton; son, Marsean Oyler; daughter, JaidaOyler; sister, Sandy Copeland and her husband Tilson Copeland; brother, David Oyler and his wife Karla Oyler; brother, Kevin Oyler and his wife HeatherOyler; 12 nieces and nephews; a multitude of friends.
Receiving of friends at Middlebrook Pike UMC from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. Memorial service at 7:00pm.
