My Story

Catherine Louise Simpkins, "Kate", was born Catherine Louise Null in Lebanon, Ohio on April 17, 1917. She was the daughter of Sue Thackra (married Null, then Harshbarger) and had one sister, Helen.
She grew up in Lebanon, graduated high school National Honor Society, attended business college, and married her high school sweetheart, John Robert Simpkins. After John served as a pilot in World War II, they had one child, daughter Lynn Anne.
Catherine enjoyed life as an immaculate homemaker, devoted mother, bridge club member, PTA member, and active member of the Methodist church. She and John would enjoy many travels together as he piloted his Cessna to most of the eastern states and Canada. Then in 1970, they decided to move to their favorite destination, Panama City, Florida.
She often called the next 20 years in Panama City "the golden years" as she and John led an active life of traveling, taking their boat to Shell Island, picnics on the beach with friends, many church activities, dinner parties and so many wonderful friends and adventures.
After John passed away on March 10, 1995, she moved to Westminster Oaks Retirement Community in Tallahassee, Fl., to be close to her daughter Lynn, son-in-law Greg, and grandchildren Kathryn and Julia. The next ten years filled with family activities, and she was always so very active and fun, tubing down the Itchatucknee River in her 80's, riding bicycles, attending karate tournaments with her grandchildren, and always her daily one mile walk.
She always had a wonderful sense of humor, was supremely organized, an immaculate housekeeper, and brought love and joy into her family's and friend's lives. She was an example of a life well lived to all of us.
She passed away in her home at Westminster Oaks on April 15, 2005, just two day before her 87th birthday.
She is so very missed and we are all so blessed to have been loved by her.
