My Story

I Delbert William Wengren was born on August 31,1924 at the home of my Grandfather and Grandmother Wengren's  in Murray, Utah.
My family moved to Union when I was one year old.  I have one sister, Ila Mary.  I was baptized at the age of 8 years by Gerald Crittenden and confirmed by Horace T. Godfrey.
In my earlier years I attended school at the Union Elementary school.
In my high school years I went to Jordan High School.  There I enjoyed the time I spent working in the shop helping my shop teachers, Mr. Seal and Mr. Dewey.  After graduating from high school I went to work at Hill Field doing Carpenty work.  While working there, I was called into the Armed Forces.  I spent the first 7 months of army duty at Hill Field.
From there I was sent to Bari, Italy.  I was there for 14 months.  Then I was sent to a place by Rome, Italy for Infantry training.  It took 30 days to cross the Atlantic Ocean on a Liberty Ship.  I spent 12 weeks in Infantry training, then I was transferred to the Quarter Master branch at Pisa, Italy for the remainder of over-sea's duty.  The total time of over-sea's duty was 26 months.
The European war ended while I was in infantry training.  I was sent back to the United States to Fort Douglas in Salt Lake City to be discharged.
After being discharged, I went to work in a planning Mill.  In may 1946 I met Wanda Christensen on a blind date through my cousin, Beverly Jones.  We were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 19, 1947.
We lived in Union until our Home I was building in Midvale was ready to move into.  We lived in Midvale for three years.  I built a home on my Father's property in Union.  We lived in this home for seven years.  Then on the property next to this home I built another home to live in for 45 years.
Then we sold our home and moved down to Monroe, Utah with my daughter Marsha and her husband Doug Chaston.  There we have lived there ever since.
Most of my life I have done carpentry work.  I have leased two service stations when I was unemployed.  I worked at Kenecott Copper for five years.  Then I had a Cabinet shop near my home.
The things that I enjoyed doing as hobbies were playing the accordian and carpentry work.
I have seven children, six daughters and one son.  I have 25 Grandchildren.  I have 28 Great grandchildren with one on the way.
