My Story

No farewell words were spoken. No time to say goodbye. You were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why.

A mother's love begins before her child is born and does not end with death.    -Becky Greer

Married for 20+ years to Jim. They enjoyed camping, Nascar racing, cookouts with friends & family, watching their youngest daughter play softball & basketball, annual vacation to Talladega with friends.

Mother of three: Jayme (soon to be 11 years old), Amanda (just turned 21) & Cindy (soon to be 25)

Grandmother of two: Hailey (soon to be 5) & Victoria (just turned 3)

The following is a letter that was read by Dorothy's youngest sister at her funeral service. It was written by Stephen, her youngest brother.

Dorothy- My Sister, My Friend Dorothy was a special person as we all know that loved everyone and was loved by all. She always made us welcome and tried her best to make us happy. Dorothy had a love for children like no other she could comfort any child in a matter of minutes with her hugs and loving words. Even a child she met for the first time felt safety and comfort in her arms. The same for adults in a time of need. Dorothy loved and enjoyed the simple things in life that most of us take for granted. You could talk to Dorothy about anything and confide in her knowing the words would stay confidential and her advise always helped. I could go on for days about the wonderful things Dorothy did and the great times we shared but we all know how special she was. Some of us may feel guilt maybe we didn't talk to her for weeks or months and we might be wishing we said I love you before her death but I can assure you she knows and loves each and every one of us more than words can say. Some of us may feel angry and think of the what ifs, we may think of the accident and how it could have been avoided but you cant think of that because that is the work of God. When it is time to go to Heaven you cant change that in any way. No doctor or hospital is more powerful that the lord. God needed Dorothy and we cannot go against his wishes. I feel comfort knowing Dorothy is watching over us and is not gone from our lives. We can still talk to her and she will still listen the same as before. This past week when I was so sad and heart broken I just looked at the sky and said Dorothy I love you and instantly felt better. I can look at the blue sky, the stars, the green trees, or beautiful flowers and feel Dorothy's love. I truly feel in my heart Dorothy is not gone. Yes she is gone from her body but her spirit will live on forever. I have learned many things this week I am thankful for. I have learned it is ok to hug and say I love you to family members without being embarassed or feeling awkward. I have made more phone calls just to say hello and how are you, and I have taken time to slow down and enjoy the people and things around me. Dorothy has a wonderful husband and three beautiful girls. I know Dorothy misses you and feels confident you will carry on and continue to do things the way she has taught you. Jim is a good man and will continue to care and provide for the Resor family the way he always has. When we leave here today try not to cry just think of the good times with Dorothy and remember she is still with all of us. Take a deep breath and smile and feel happy for her. Take comfort knowing we will all be together someday in heaven to share everlasting life.

Scripture: The lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knows those who trust him.
