My Story

On February 4, 1945 in Richmond, California, Preston and Mazie Crawley were blessed with the birth of their first child, Gary Lewis Crawley.

Gary’s early elementary education was in Illinois and California. While attending John Marshall High School in Chicago, Gary was an honor student, an avid reader, and a starting forward on the varsity basketball team. After high school, he attended Amundsen Junior College, and his achievements in the classroom and skill on the basketball court earned him a scholarship to North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1966 , and attained the rank of Lance Corporal.

Upon returning from the military, Gary married Floretta Connie and had three children - Jeanette, Mark and Ina, and worked for the U.S. Postal Service in the Chicago Main Office. Later in his career, he was a regional manager for Savin Corporation, and he fell in love with the travel industry. His passion and his ministry were born out of his decision to become an independent travel agent. Whether it was assisting bishops and pastors with their itineraries, helping newlyweds enjoy their honeymoons or planning vacations and events for family and friends, Gary took pleasure in ensuring that everything met and exceeded their expectations.

On December 26, 1976, Gary was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, Cecelia harris. Their union was blessed with two sons.

At an early age, Gary received Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized. In 1977, he rededicated his life to Christ and became a member of J.W. James Memorial A.M.E. Church. He served faithfully in numerous ministries, including Superintendent of Sunday School, Layman’s Organization, Steward Board, and Sanctuary Choir. He also served on the Board of Directors of the James Memorial Christian Academy for several years.

On September 10, 2004, after completing last-minute travel plans for his family, God fulfilled the reservation that Gary had made years earlier and called him on his final trip home.

Gary (affectionally known as Uncle Louie) leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Cecilia A. Crawley; his children, Jeanette of Chicago, Il, Mark (& Tina) of Chicago, Il, Ina of Chicago, Il, Kevin (& Tarsha) of Okmulgee, OK and Preston (& Lateefra) of Chandler, AZ; his mother, Mazie Crawley of San Francisco, CA; his brother, Dwain (& Sharon) of Dallas, TX and hs sister Presonya of Forest Park, IL; mother-in-law, Georgia Stamps of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Christine, Andrew, Alyssa, Karreccia, Jaden, and Kaleb; two Godchildren, James Hicks and Trenee Nuness, and an abundance of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
