This memorial website was created by family and friends in loving memory of Gustavo Delara, a best friend, great brother, loving son and so much more. Gustavo was born on 11.02.1982 and sadly passed away on 08.06.2008. Gustavo was 25 years old when he passed and was completely full of life. There was never a bad moment, never a bad memory. We will remember him forever as he will remain in our hearts till we meet again.
Ever since Gustavo was little he always had that natural charm about him that left a mark with everyone who met him. His heart and spirit were strong and he lived everyday without fear. He loved life and made sure every minute count. He was never quick to judge but always quick to forgive and trust.
His goal in life was to be a dectective/cop and he was working diligently to accomplish this dream. Gustavo was on his way to becoming the first one in the family to finish college and even to the day of his passing he was still attending his classes. A true definition for Gustavo is hero. Early this year he began to attend Western Illinois University were he was expected to recieve his BA in criminal justice. His dream was cut short when they diagnosed him with stage 4 brain cancer March 2008. Even after his diagnosis he wasn't discouraged and continued to fight the battle. He began to attend classes at Aurora College and continued to educate himself. He always had that go get em attitude which he touched and inspired many people in his life with.
One of the most important things in his life was his family, which he loved dearly. Gustavo was so proud of them and they were so proud of him. His mom raised him to be such a gentleman; always so polite, respectful, caring and a giver. He would always put others before himself in any situation whether it be good or bad. I remember he was so close to enlisting in the marines just so he could be with Joanna, his little sister, so he could protect her from any harms way. He was such a great big brother his sisters love him and miss him so much. Recently he just became an uncle and was so excited to be that cool uncle Olivia would go to. Whenever she looked at him she just smiled and giggled. She always knew how to make him feel better. One time after Gustavo came home from Chemo he was on the porch vomitting then Olivia stood next to him immitating his exact motions and noise and you couldn't help but laugh and that made Gustavo feel so much better. Though he is not here physically to protect her, I know Gustavo will be her angel forever.
Another thing Gustavo loved so much was working out. He had such a joy for weight lifting. He was so proud of his 'guns'. We'd be sitting at a bar somewhere and signature Gustavo line 'Touch my guns'. He was so proud of the results and I'm not going to lie he was Huge, his forearm was bigger then my thigh. Even after diagnosed with his sickness he would go the gym religiously.
Besides the gym I'll never forget how much he loved his dog, Tyson. One of his favorite things to do was to sleep on the couch with Tyson, but Tyson got more of the sleeping becausing surprisingly Tyson would snore louder then Gustavo.
Gustavo was also a huge Cubbies fan, go cubs go! So when the cubbies win the world series this year we'll know who really made it happen :)
Great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget. I'm so greatful you graced us with your presence for the 25 years you did. You meant the world to me and everyone around you, RIP Gustavo... Cheers!
Gustavo is missed greatly by family and friends and will be remembered forever. We luv you Gus!
