Harold Garfield Moore, Jr. was born on July 30, 1974. He was the youngest
of four children arriving after his twin sister. Harold grew up in Laurel with his three
sisters and many, many cousins.
Harold was educated in the Prince George’s County School System. His
early years were spent at Samuel B. Morse Elementary School, James Harrison
Elementary School, and Eisenhower Middle School. He graduated from Laurel High
School in 1992, and attended Prince George’s Community College.
“Lil
Harold” as he was affectionately known, enjoyed playing sports, spending time
with his family, and he had a special affinity for helping children. His sports
of choice were football, softball, and basketball. Into his adult years, he
played on several teams in Maryland and North Carolina, and played competitively
on many softball travel teams. In recent months, he decided to give golf a shot
and loved it! He also enjoyed spending time with his family. Travelling to
Myrtle Beach for bike week with his cousins, family reunions and cookouts, and
just hanging out with his sisters and cousins were among the few of the things
that he enjoyed doing with family. However, he had a special place in his heart
for children. Harold had four godchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and younger
cousins. He devoted a lot of quality time with the children in his life encouraging
them to reach their full potential and promoting their self confidence. Harold
was a great role model and father. They could always count on him to support
them at school activities, sporting events, or just spending quality time with
them. Spending time with and helping others brought Harold great joy – he was a
people person.
In
2007, he began dating his best friend of 12 years, Ayesha. They moved to North
Carolina and married on September 5, 2010. They enjoyed watching sports
together, travelling, concerts, going to church, movies, and finding unique
restaurants. Although they were best friends, there was one area that they
could never see eye to eye – football. Harold was a die-hard Cowboy fan and
Ayesha was a die-hard Steelers fan. Football Sundays were always interesting in
their home.
In
his later years, Harold became very devoted to his walk with Christ. He
reignited his walk with Christ by joining Tried Stone Missionary Baptist
Church. He participated with the Men’s Fellowship Group and worked as a Youth
Group Worker where he chaperoned field trips and supervised church activities.
Harold also enjoyed attending Bible Study there. His Christian walk continued
as he found his way to First Missionary Baptist Church upon moving to Frederick.
After attending services regularly for almost five months, Harold made the
decision to not only join the fellowship of First Missionary, but to also be
baptized. He enjoyed learning in his Baptism classes, and recently started to
attend weekly Bible Study. Two weeks before his untimely passing he was to be
baptized.
