My Story

MYRTLE BEACH | James L. Grubbs, 65, passed away early Monday morning, May 18, 2009 at his residence.

James was born in Cambridge, Ohio, May 13, 1944 and was a son of the late Alva and Betty Anderson Grubbs.

He served with the Ohio National Guard and was retired from the Cambridge Ohio Police Department after 31 years his last two years as Police Chief. In 2004 he and his wife moved to the Myrtle Beach area where he worked on the staff of Spring Maid Beach Resort. James was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Susan Grubbs of Myrtle Beach; three sons, Michael Grubbs and David McCoy of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Brian Grubbs and his wife, Christine, of Conway; a brother, Kenneth Grubbs of Cambridge, Ohio; a sister, Leona DeVore of North Port, Fla.; two grandsons, Trevin Grubbs and Christopher Lee; two special nephews, Jason DeVore and Sam Grubbs; and many loving nephews and nieces.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009 in East Conway Pentecostal Holiness Church, 306 Hwy. 544, Conway, S.C., with the Rev. Jeff Atkinson officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.

Memorial contributions in James' memory can be made through the family at their home mailing address.

The family would like to especially thank the Staff of NHC, Health Care Center and the Staff of Spring Maid Beach Resort for the many thoughts and prayers.
