James Clyde Kerns Sr., 86, died Jan. 31, 2012, in
Stuart. He was born in Canton, Ohio, and lived in Dedham, Mass. He was a retired
heating technician, employed by White Fuel Co. in Massachusetts. He was a
veteran of World War II with the Marine Corps serving in the South
Pacific. He was the recipient of two Bronze Star awards and the Purple Heart for action at the islands of Saipan and Okinawa. He was a
member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, South Yarmouth, Mass., and Teamsters
Local 25. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Virginia Kerns of Dedham;
sons, James Kerns Jr. and Jack Kerns, both of Dedham; daughters, Lynda Kerns of
Stuart and Lisa Kerns of Dedham; five grandchildren, Nicole M Kerns of Virginia, James Kerns 3rd from Massachusetts, Amy L Kerns from Massachusetts, Christopher Kerns of Florida and Julia Kerns of Florida. and two
great-grandchildren Emma M Kerns and Brady Fine, both from Chelmsford Massachusetts. Services: A graveside committal service with military
honors will be at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 6 at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne,
