My Story

JOAN DORIS ELSIE TURNER  (nee Foster)

Joan was the eldest daughter born to Albert Edward Foster and Gladys Violet Foster (nee Bell) Joan was born on 27 th August 1938 in st Marys hospital Croydon at 2am it was a fine clear day

Joan spent most of her childhood in and around the Addiscombe and Croydon area. Apart from the war years which she spent with her mother at Scoto (Norfolk) the home of Joan's grandmother.

On Joan's return home she went to woodside junior school, Then came a big change for Joan as on the 10th April 1947 Joan's sister was born. A few years pasted then Joan went to ashburton secondray school where she stayed until 1953 time to leave and get her first full time employment, which was at Sainsbury's Addiscombe.

In 1954 Joan's life was to change again when she met a gentleman named Raymond Alfred James Turner. Their first date was to the cinema this lead to a four year courtship, which ended on the 7th
June 1958 when Joan and Raymond married at Croydon  Registry Office. They set up home in Ross road South Norwood.

Two years later in the middle of 1960 Joan and Ray moved to what was to be the family home in Percy road South Norwood. December 4th saw the arrivel of their first daughter Stella Joyce (alias Minnie Mouse)who was born at Joan's mum's house in Grant road Addiscombe. Joan was happy to be a full time mother and homemaker. April 27th 1963 was their second child and daughter Wendy born at st Mary's Hospital Croydon the same place that Joan's own life had started. 1963 also was
a sad time for Joan with the lose of her father. The next few years were busy for Joan with nappies school runs but Joan loved it. On the 29th January 1967 their last child Leslie Raymond was born at the family home in Percy road, and for Joan a wish came true when the midwife said its a boy. Leslie was to be the apple of Joan's eye always despite  all his shenanigans over the years that followed mother and son were always very close. In April 1968 Joan was to suffer the lose of her mother this was hard for Joan as they had shared a close relationship. With the love of her family Joan managed to cope with this lose. The next few years were busy as any mum with three children  knows. Over the next few years Joan stayed at home with the children and had a few parttime jobs, until Febuary 1977 when Joan returned to fulltime work at a local factory called Rights and Sons as a quality controller.

Joan,s family started to grow with the marriages of her children Leslie to Yvonne (Thresea) 1994
Wendy to David 1998 and Stella to Rob 2000
Grandchildren arrived Aaron 1980, Nichola 1983, Danny 1985,  Vincent 1986 , Gareth 1987, Leanne 1990, Craig 1991 and Blake 1993. Joan welcomed each new member with warmth and love.

Due to ill heath Ray retired from work in 1991 and so this was to be the start of a new chapter in Joan's live. With no children in tow Joan and Ray started there serch for what they called the perfect public house most of there serch was to take place when on there hoildays in their favourite place New Romney (Kent). Came the Millennium and more adventurous hoildays all over England and Wales with family friend John. Next came Joan's first plane ride when they went on hoilday to Jersey . Joan and Ray finaly found their perfect pub in Devon The Hunters Inn this was after over 300  pubs that  Joan had listed and that they had tryed.

In the years of the 2000 Joan was  to be busy welcoming the great grandchildren to the family,Ryan 2003 (nichola) Kerry 2004 (nichola) Caron  2004 (aaron) Katie 2006 (leanne).

2007 sadly brings Joan's live to an end but for all her family and friends the love their shared lives on in all their hearts.
