My Story

Christmas came early in 2008 as despite the doctor’s intentions, Kaitlyn insisted on arriving 23 days early, still tipping the scales at 8 pounds 12 ounces. We later realized that it was probably her cheeks that slowed up the delivery

Kaitlyn was truly wonderful from Day 1. It took the nurses forever just to get her to cry. She was always so peaceful, slept through the night, and was just so easy going. She didn’t like the swing or chair though. Kaitlyn just wanted us to hold her. Perhaps she just wanted to enjoy those moments while she could. We will never forget her telling us stories (in her own little way), her laughter, and best of all her smile. And on her last day with us, she even managed to roll over for the first time.

On Monday, May 4 we got the worst phone call of our lives. We had to get to the ER. By Wednesday we would realize it was already too late, and that she was already resting peacefully. We donated Kaitlyn's organs with the hopes of saving up to four lives. Parts of Kaitlyn will hopefully live on for a long, long time - benefiting both infant girls and an older man. Most importantly Kaitlyn will live forever in the hearts of many, many people including us and certainly Zach.

There are countless people we want to thank. First and foremost we want to thank Meleah, Jeanne, and all the medical professionals who did everything they could to help Kaitlyn and support us. Thanks to Fr. Jerry Knapp for coming out to Sinai Hospital to baptize Kaitlyn and for saying today’s mass. Thanks to Terri, Jamie, Cori, Kim, John, and Mary for helping us out with Zach and being there for us. Thanks to Aunt Donna & Aunt Cindy for being with us at the hospital. Thanks to Leslie, Joe, Kiley, and Chris for the many things they did to help us through our time at the hospital and this whole process. A big, big thank you to our parents for being by our side through all this. And thanks to the rest of our family and our many many friends, who are like family to us. We have been absolutely overwhelmed by all your support and thank you for being with us.

Kaitlyn we love you and we will see you again someday!
