My Story

Kara Micciche

Kara was born 4/14/1994, she had lots of hair. She was beautiful, full of energy and for the longest time the only girl in a large family of boys, destined to be spoiled. As she grew we soon saw that she was not afraid to express herself and knew exactly what she wanted and how to get it. Of course, she had her father wrapped around her finger.

When she got old enough to get her learner's permit for driving she wanted to be an organ donor. Her father did not share the same feelings, but she knew what she wanted and was determined to get her way. She had a long talk with him and they discussed what she wanted if something were to happen to her. And you know he gave in. In May of 2011, she got her wish, she got her learner's permit and she was now registered as an organ donor.

On, July 12, 2011 at approx. 8:30pm she was on her way to a carnival and was struck by a car while crossing the road. Only hours had passed when we found that she was brain dead on impact. The hospital and emergency personel did everything they could with hopes there would be some gleam of hope. Unfortunately, there was none. The only hope now was that her wishes would become reality and she would live on through others.

Since the accident we received information that Kara's heart, both kidneys, liver, and pancreas all went to others and they are doing well after their transplants. Her accident has brought alot of attention to public safety and a crosswalk was installed at the site where she was struck and has been dedicated to her.

We knew from the first moment she entered this world that she was destined for great things. We just didn't realize how big those things would be. Not only did she have an impact on her family, but also to complete strangers, classmates, and the community.

She would indeed continue to live, long after she is gone.
