My Story

Lucy was born in Waukegan, Illinois, the eldest child of Anton and May TeVogt. She had many happy memories of childhood, spending summers visiting family in South Carolina. She loved and was loved by her sister, Antonette and her brother Jim. In 1945 she married Alvin McAlister in Greenville, South Carolina and they later moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan. They were blessed to have two sons, Alvin Charles (now of Debary, FL) and Tony (now of Onidea, TN). Lucy retired from the Ford Motor Company in Saline, Michigan where she had made many good friends. She was thrilled and proud to welcome two grandchildren into her life, Mechelle (McAlister) Hopgood (currently residing in Ypsilanti, Michigan) and Shawn McAlister (currently residing in Boulder, Colorado). Sadly, Lucy and Alvin were divorced later in life. She then moved to Kenosha, WI, to be near her mother and sister, where she tremendously enjoyed playing bingo, shopping, dining out with her friends and family and spending time with those she loved. She later moved to Debary, FL, to be near her son and his wife.

Lucy is survived by her son, Alvin Charles and wife Pat, and son Tony. Also, her grandchildren, Mechelle (Shelly) and Shawn, and five beautiful great granddaughters, Kristy Mechelle Thacker, Brittany Thacker, Alyssa Hopgood, Macy Hopgood and Ella Hopgood all of Ypsilanti, MI. Further survived by sister, Antonette Collins of Kenosha, WI and sister-in-law, Glenna TeVogt of Oak Ridge, TN, and many loving nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

She has been reunited with her parents, former husband and brother James, who predeceased her.

A celebration of her life will be held in the month of July (date to be determined) at the Warren Cemetary in Gurnee, IL.
