Michael Zane “Big Mike” Burtt
Michael Zane “Big Mike” Burtt, 56, a long-time resident of St. Augustine, originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died April 21, 2008. During his lifetime he worked at many different jobs as varied as a wrangler on a dude ranch, a helmsman on Great Lake freighters, to his most recent position as a construction foreman for Jax Utilities in Jacksonville.
Mike enjoyed spending time with his friends fishing, camping, horseback riding, working his “Cracker cows”, cooking “cowboy style” over an open fire and participating in “reenactments” as a Florida Cow Hunter.
He is survived by his mother, Audrey Burtt, of Haines City, Florida, a brother, Robert M. Burtt of Charlevoix, Mich., a sister, Jan Cooper of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., two nieces and three nephews and his very dear friends in Michigan and Florida. He was preceded in death by his beloved father, Robert E. Burtt.
Mike will be missed greatly, but he lived his life on his own terms and was happiest with his cracker cows, horses, dogs and close friends.
A memorial service was held at the cattle ranch upon which Mike lived in St. Augustine on Saturday, May 3rd. and one will be planned for a future date in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
