My Story

Tell Me it was Just a Dream...August 22nd, 2:18

Nia Dorsey was born on August 28th, 1996. She was a beautiful blond haired, brown eyed child. As a sister, daughter and friend Nia always had a smile on her face, and care in her eyes. She loved to play with legos with her older sister Aria, as well as run around outside. Her favorite shows were Blues Clues and Teletubbies. Every one of our family members were assigned a character, with her sister being Poe since she has red hair, her mother being Tinky Winky and herself being LaLa. She loved doctors, and after a shot she would even thank the doctor and never cry. Her family bought her a Blues Clues lunch box for her first day of pre-school, which she was sadly never able to use.

Everyone loved Nia, everyone would have given everything for, would have given their own life for her. Yet on August 22nd, 1999 a tragic event occured. Every smile she once caused, turned into tears rolling down faces. She was killed, and would never walk this earth again. As we laid her body down in her Winnie the Pooh Halloween costume, all of our family, our friends, our neighbors were there watching her leave this world.

Everyday Nia is watching over you, taking care of us all, and making sure her family is healthy and well.

WE LOVE YOU.
NEVER FORGOTTEN,
ALWAYS MISSED.

SOMETIMES LIFE CALLS IT'S ANGELS TOO SOON

Story of her Death:

"At some point during the night I woke up to the voice of my mother screaming hysterically “Get off, get off her!” I sprang out of bed, and saw my father leaning over my sister’s crib. I was not sure of what was happening, but I saw my mother trying to pull him away. My first instinct was to get my father away from the crib. I frantically rushed over, and pulled him off. My strength at that moment seemed to defy all science: a 4ft tall old girl physically moving a 6ft tall man. While my sister was taken to the hospital, I stayed across the street with a neighbor. Somehow I managed to get to sleep, and when I awoke I hoped it was all a terrible nightmare. But I was wrong. Later I was sitting in my neighbor’s living room when my mother walked in. She held a white, knit blanket in her arms; it looked like my sister was wrapped up in it. In that instance I was so happy to see her alive. But a hole opened up under me when I saw my mother’s hopelessly stricken expression as she held the bundle in her arms. I immediately exploded with tears, and did not stop crying for hours. Later that day the Providence newspaper read “Brian Jacobs attempted to strangle his 2 year old daughter.” The media informed the world about what had happened that night, but I only cared that my sister was gone forever; I would never get her back."
-Her sister, Aria Dorsey
