It's impossible to think of Paul and not remember his love of animals, particularly his long-time buddy, Mbwa. He was a sweet-natured lad, unless you were another big male dog. But he had a thing for porcupines... In the Spring '72, my girlfriend Betsy and I went to visit Pablo at the farm in western Mass. When we arrived no one was home so we went for a walk, taking Mbwa with us. In some tall...
I met Paul on a roadtrip to Santa Fe with Lance Sims in '64. I took them to a Pentacostal church in Missouri. Paul couldn't handle the fire and brimstone "Devil is in the room" preaching and had to leave early. In '67-68 I roomed with Paul, Chris Franklin, and Peter Crews (sp?) in Cambridge. Good roommates! I saw Paul off and on for a few years, and then didn't see him until Lance's anniversary...
How Paul loved animals!! He once had some largish turtles living in the basement. My mother thought they needed some Sun and put them out in the yard, unfortunately in the tin basin they were living in. You guessed it..fried turtle. I am not sure he ever forgave her, but he certainly grew up in a family of animal lovers!

Passing through the Texas panhandle on a hot day, we spotted a sign for a lake and turned off in hopes of a swim....

Dear Finian - I'm so sorry hear about the passing of your father. You wouldn't remember me, but I met you a couple of times when you were very young. I knew both of your parents from Massachusetts, way before they moved to SF and began their respective careers. Your parents lived at my best friend's house, Hill House, which you have most likely heard about. We were the "kids" and I have man...
