On the 18th February 2008 Peter McKenna of Sea Road, Kilcoole and formerly of Roundwood Co. Wicklow passed away peacefully in St. Vincent’s Hospital. Many would have known and remembered Peter through the years as the drummer in many local bands including The Union Shuffle Showband. Peter also played with Danny Kelly in Easy listening in many pubs throughout the county. His love of country music took him to Nashville and he played in Nashville in 1998 while on a trip to his relations in America. Peter also had a love of wildlife and nature, and this took him on many walks to many locations from the Breeches in Kilcoole to the Great wall of China and he always had his camera in his hand. He spent many days walking with the Roundwood Walkers and went on many memorable trips with the walkers group.
Peter spent most of his life building up his successful business with his family, McKenna Timber Products. During the course of the business Peter traveled many locations all over the world including Poland, Latvia, Finland, USA, China, Spain, and Morocco and never failed to return with photographs and new ideas that were then implemented for his customers.
Peter was born on the 20th April 1944 son of Patrick and Esther McKenna, Roundwood, and brother to Paddy, Gene (RIP), Billy, Kitty, Betty (RIP) and Pat (RIP). Peter is survived by his four children Paul, Karl, Linda, and Peter and five grandchildren, Nicole “The Buzzy”, Emily, Paul, Katie, and Erin. Peter has been laid to rest in Priestnewtown, Co. Wicklow.
