My Story

Walter or ray to all that knew him was the youngest of four he had a brother called Robert also 2 sisters Hilda and Joan. He was a Sunday school teacher at haxby/Wigginton Methodist church he worked at rowntrees until he went into the army when he came out of the army he worked with his brother Robert at there market garden and at the shop in heworth, he then in 1957 started working for British rail but had to take early retirement in 1987 due to ill health. He married the late Barbara on 29th December 1951 at haxby Methodist church. He leaves behind 3 children merrilyn, Marion, and Roland, a son in law john and daughter in law Debbie also 5 grand children, Caroline, Laura. Samantha, Matthew, and Daniel and 3 great grandchildren Joshua Conner and Megan, and as he called the 2 grandchildren in law’s Stewart and Trevor also nieces Jennifer Christine Jane marry and Anne and nephews James and Steven. He was a well loved and thought of man a gentleman knew his own mind and he had a sideways sense of humour. He never really retired was always doing something on the small holding he had at breighton and was still changing tractor tyres 2 days before he had a bad heart attack in august last year. He loved to take his dog Polly for long walks round breighton airfield and could be gone for hours at a time. We will miss you dad more than words can say. You kept on saying you were sorry in your last few days for it taking so long why we did not know we all wish you could have had the 20yrs you wanted but now you are free of pain , hope you and Polly can go for your long walks and feel the sun on your face forever.

We love you dad.
