My Story

My dad lived in Hetton for most of his life but 'HUNG' out with the Houghton crowd when he was young.
For much of his life he worked as a mechanic in philli and at Edward Thompsons in sunderland. It was when my dad was 51 when I was born but that did not really matter to him cause he always loved to take me out on the bike and to eat chips at McDonalds in stockton near where he worked as a lorry driver for Wincanton, based in Thornaby. I loved the trips dad gave me in the lorry - he would pick me up on the way back from Asda in washington on the A19 and drive me back to work to drop the lorry off. It was great! We had some great times and I will never forget him. He died from cancer when I was six but I will never forget my last chat with him on the phone while he was in hospital on 26.7.01. He spent ages talking to me and my sister - it was like he knew that was going to be the last time he would talk to us. I remember him saying he loved me and I said the same to him. He talked to my mum for a while and then he was gone. I saw him two more times in the undertakers and he looked a little different to when he was alive but i am still glad I saw him and kissed him , and then said goodbye.
I will never forget you dad, I love you and miss you always. Jason Ayre. xxx
