My Story

Richard Alan Goodrich, 61, died unexpectedly October 18th, 2011 in his home of Lakeside, Oregon.  Richard was also known as Dick to some of his good friends.

He was born to the late Elizabeth (Betty) and Howard Goodrich on January 23rd, 1950, in Flint, MI.   Richard graduated from Fenton High School in 1968 and received a B.A. in Fine Arts from the Eastern Michigan University in 1976.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1970-1974 before settling in San Diego, CA.  San Diego is where he resided for nearly twenty-three years before making Lakeside, Oregon his home.

Richard was a talented artist, who enjoyed the great outdoors, woodworking, and the company of his two sweet dogs; Buff and Pepper.  Richard also traveled cross-country after his retirement from the California Department of Transportation in 2005.  He will always be remembered for his good nature and being a compassionate man who enjoyed making people laugh.

Richard is survived by his three children: Julie Goodrich of Los Angeles, CA from his second marriage to Frances Goodrich; Mary Durant (Garner) of Grand Blanc, MI and Jennifer Garner-Phillips of Burton, MI from his first marriage.  He is also survived by his brother, James (Jim) Goodrich and his wife Sandra of Fenton, MI; his nephew, Neil Goodrich of Chicago, IL; his aunt, Loie and her husband Ralph Freeburg of Fenton, MI.

A memorial, to honor and celebrate his life, will be held at Johnny's Pizzeria (a childhood favorite eatery) located at: 1492 North Leroy Street, Fenton, MI on Saturday, January 14th, 2012 from 1-5pm.  Pastor Adam Maloney from Calvary Chapel will be present to share a few words with friends and family.  Obituary to be posted, on-line, and in the Sunday edition of The Flint Journal on November 27th, 2011. http://obits.mlive.com/obituaries/flint/
