My Story

Robert Joseph Geidl, 79, Palos Verdes Estates, California, died Thursday May 21, 2009 at 5:00 p.m., at his residence.

Robert J. Geidl was born on April 25, 1930, in Sioux City, Iowa.  He moved to Palmdale, California in the 1950's where he and his wife, Anne raised their three children; Barbara, Robert and Sherry. He then moved to Lancaster, California after his wife became ill, and was a longtime residence.

Robert served in the United States Army, retired from both Rockwell International and Boeing and worked for the County of Los Angeles.

Robert remarried again to Laura Murray and had three step children; Jerry, Jim and Michelle.  In 2005, for his final years of life, he and his wife Laura moved to Palos Verdes Estates, California to be closer to his three step children for their love and support.

Robert's health had been declining for the past nine years.  He had a series of health issues which included, Alzheimer's, Parkinson Disease, Prostate Cancer and Colon Cancer.  His wife Laura cared for him at their residence.  The last 6 weeks of his life, the family brought in Hospice to help with controlling his pain and suffering, as he and his family wanted to care for him at home until the end.  His wife Laura was by his side when he took his last breath, and then passed on.  "Till death do we part...."

Robert, a.k.a. "Grandpa Bob" was a kind and caring man.  He loved his family and would do anything for them.  He was a frugal man, and believed that a penny saved was a penny earned...  He had a love for life and was always smiling!  His perfect day would be going to "Bob's Lake," and fishing.  "Opening Day" at the lake was the next major "Holiday" after Christmas, he would say.  He looked forward to it, and would spend the entire day fishing on his private dock the whole season long;  even if he caught his limit or not!  He just loved being there, and enjoyed sharing the experience with his family and friends...

Survivors include his wife Laura Murray; his three children: Barbara and husband John, Robert and Sherry;  his three step children: Jerry, Jim and wife Heather, and Michelle and  husband Michael; his 14 grandchildren: Benjamin and wife Joanne, Sarah and husband Jake, Andrew and wife Crystal, Nathan, Justin, Haley, Austin, Aidan, Joshua, Jennifer, Anna, Priscilla, Colin and Ethan; and his 3 great grandchildren, Salix, Madeline and Payton.  Robert was surpassed by his granddaughter Natasha in 1997, and thankfully they are now together again...

"Grandpa Bob" was a husband, a father, and friend to all...  We will miss him terribly!
